Meet Dilleen! She is involved in multiple Emerging Adult Supports in Frederick County and has made so much progress since coming to Spectrum. We are very proud of her! Dilleen and her youth coordinator have identified and worked toward numerous goals and life skills that will set her up for independence and confidence in the next stages of her life. Dilleen enjoys learning about educational topics and makes it a focus to follow her curiosity on a regular basis. She has had many significant milestones, including studying for and passing her learner’s permit test, and has been practicing her driving with her father. Transportation challenges can be a major factor that prevents people from being able to interact with their community and pursue their dreams, so learning to drive is a huge step towards independence and self-sufficiency!

Dilleen has also learned a lot about and practiced budgeting, and has recently successfully completed her SECOND work-based learning experience (WBLE)! Dilleen’s first WBLE was with Old Navy during the spring of 2023, and she just completed her second WBLE this summer 2024 with CVS. Her most recent work-based learning experience has provided her with valuable experience and professional development that will help her meet her long-term goals such as improving her time management skills, researching careers, and practicing interview etiquette.

With all of that confidence, enthusiasm, and knowledge under her belt, we know she will go far!

Spectrum Support is here to help empower young adults with disabilities so they can be independent and confident adults! We provide everything from transportation training, where we practice the process of taking a bus wherever you need to go, money management and life skills, connecting and preparing people for the perfect jobs for them, and of course numerous opportunities to connect with the community and build relationships that last! Check out our Emerging Adult Supports page to learn more about the programs we offer for young adults.
